Daniel Briere and Buffalo Sabres made the most of rare mistakes by the New Jersey Devils. Briere set up all three Buffalo goals as the Sabres took a comfortable lead and then held on in the final minute for a 3-2 victory over the Devils on Tuesday night. New Jersey, one of the NHL's top defensive teams, twice turned the puck over to Briere in the third period.

Ryan Miller provided the one thing missing in a season in which the playoff-bound Buffalo Sabres have already set a franchise record for victories.
With win No. 51, Miller made 31 saves to record his and the team's first shutout of the year in a 6-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday.
"It wasn't real high on my list," Miller said, of recording only his second career NHL shutout. "But with the success we've had, it is a little bonus on top. Just trying to get tuned up ready to go.

The surging Montreal Canadiens look to close in on their second straight playoff berth as they visit the Buffalo Sabres.
The Canadiens are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference and have not made consecutive trips to the playoffs since 1996-98.
Montreal defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Monday, its ninth win in the last 10 games.

Ray Emery stopped 28 shots and got help from some fortunate bounces as Ottawa clinched a playoff spot with a 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.
"I'll take the good bounces for sure," Emery said. "Luck was on our side, definitely.

While the Bruins' front office might be ready to give up on this season, Brad Boyes and the rest of his Boston teammates are still holding onto faint playoff hopes.
Marco Sturm scored late in the third period, Boyes had a goal and two assists, and Boston snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 Saturday night, just hours after the Bruins fired general manager Mike O'Connell.

Bruins snap skid after dumping O'Connell
Marco Sturm scored late in the third period, Brad Boyes recorded a goal and two assists, and Boston snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 Saturday night, just hours after the Bruins fired general manager Mike O'Connell.
Glen Murray, Tom Fitzgerald and Patrice Bergeron also scored for Boston, which defeated Buffalo for the first time since March 13, 2004, and improved to 1-6 against the Sabres this season.
Sabres' Mair cleared for contact
Sabres center Adam Mair was cleared for contact Tuesday after missing 28 games with a concussion.
The decision by coach Lindy Ruff came after Mair passed a series of tests Monday in Pittsburgh. Although Mair has been skating regularly the past few weeks, he will still be out an undetermined period before being ready to play in a game. He remains on injured reserve.
Mair was hurt Jan. 12 during a collision with Phoenix forward Tyson Nash, and some feared he might miss the rest of the season.
Rangers edge Buffalo in shootout
Henrik Lundqvist heard the cheers before the lights brightened the ice for the third period.
Fans grew tired of backup goalie Kevin Weekes and were frustrated that the New York Rangers appeared on the verge of a third straight loss.
The roar began as Lundqvist led his teammates out of the tunnel, grew louder when he was announced into the game, and was deafening when he blanked the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout Monday night that gave the Rangers a rousing 5-4 victory.
